Hot Quilt Summer

Last weekend, as I shared news of an upcoming exhibition with my sister-in-law, she remarked, “It’s Hot Quilt Summer!” I laughed at the meme reference, but she’s right—my quilts will be exhibited at a number shows over the coming months, and I look forward to seeing many of them in person.

I’m lucky to have work juried into several prestigious venues for the very first time: Quilt National at The Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens, Ohio; Fantastic Fibers at the Yeiser Art Center in Paducah, Kentucky; and Form, Not Function at the Carnegie Center for Arts and History in New Albany, Indiana.

That is exciting in and of itself, but earlier this month, I was gobsmacked to learn that organizers for both Fantastic Fibers and Form, Not Function selected my quilts to be the main publicity images for their respective shows. It was quite a surreal experience to open the mailbox and find a postcard with my quilt on the front—TWICE! Talk about a cherry on top.

Postcards promoting the Form, Not Function and Fantastic Fibers exhibitions feature my quilts!

Each art center also decked out its website with images of my quilts. The detail image of “Mandarin Swirl” looks particularly handsome on the Carnegie Center’s website, as the vermillion fabric is a near-perfect match for a color in the organization’s logo (hat tip to Chawne Kimber for picking such a lovely palette for the 2023 QuiltCon Fabric Challenge). And just like the quilt, the logo also features a swirl motif.

The Yeiser also put “Citron Swirl” on the cover of the Fantastic Fibers catalog, which is available as a digital PDF. That exhibition features a wide variety of fiber arts techniques and styles, and it’s an honor to have my work represent the show.

If you are able to travel to any of these shows, I highly recommend it! Fantastic Fibers is on view through June 24. Form, Not Function opens May 11 and runs through July 22. Finally, Quilt National opens May 26 and is on view through Sept. 11.
